This one is on all my blogs, but I'm so happy I got my rights back!!
Okay, this is my "Events Quarterly" interview that I got published. I had to wait 100 days before I could do anything Ryan had the full rights. I know complicated, huh? oh be sure to visit www.eventsquarterly.com to read the current magazine. My article is located at this address, in case you want to see the real thing. http://www.eventsquarterly.com/21e/21.php
Krystal: When did you decide that you wanted to be an actor?
Toby Jones: It's an ongoing decision. I love teaching, writing, and directing too!
Krystal: What do you teach?
Toby Jones: I teach many things, but improvisation, devising and storytelling are my favorites.
Krystal: Did you know much about Truman Capote before you started filming "Infamous?"
Toby Jones: Before I started filming yes, but not before I read the script the first time.
Krystal: How did you get the part?
Toby Jones: I screen tested for Doug McGrath (the director/ screenwriter) at leavesden studio's - coincidently this is where Harry Potter is shot. Doug had been recommended to screen test me by several casting directors.
Krystal: Did you do anything special to prepare for this role?
Toby Jones: Yes, I had extensive voice coaching and research sessions. I read books and watched a lot of video.
Krystal: Did you have to physically transform yourself for the role of Truman Capote?
Toby Jones: Yes. I had to transform the shape of my mouth. Truman Capote's jaw seems to protrude so that his teeth meet hard top on bottom. He has a very specific manner and demeanor which affect everything: his gait, his posture, his gesturing, even his blinking!
Krystal: I heard that you were cut from "Notting Hill" and wrote a one person play, "The Missing Reel." Can you tell me the gist of it and what made you write it?
Toby Jones: Well, it's a story based on truth about disappointment, love, anxiety, revenge, and hope.
Krystal: Can you please tell me more about "The Missing Reel?"
Toby Jones: This was a show I wrote and performed which tells the story of a scene from the film "Notting Hill."The scene was between Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant, and me playing the tiny role of a 'fan'. Sadly the scene was cut, but the show became successful as both a play and a radio play, in which Hugh Grant appeared briefly at the end. The story is about editing and deletism. It's a kind of revenge, conspiracy, storytelling show performed by me with the help of a Foley artist who performs the sound effects of what I'm describing as the show progresses. Anyway the show included the deleted scene which Richard Curtis, the director, gave me a tape of!
Krystal: While doing some research, I've noticed that in almost everything they put "cherub," "gnome- like," "side kick" etc. Do you think that it takes the professionalism away from your work?
Toby Jones: I don't think it has to do with professionalism. However I do notice that people are moved to describe, try and describe me in these kids of terms. I don't really mind. The way I look is crucial to my work since it is through understanding what I project that I can begin to alter, adapt, and transform.
Krystal: What are you currently working on?
Toby Jones: I am preparing to play a character called Franklin Franklin in an American movie.
He has also just finished starring in a short film directed and written by his brother, Rupert Jones, called "The Sickie," plays Waddington in "The Painted Veil" which is scheduled to open December 20, *EDIT this was last year *and is portraying Gerard Dou in the film "Nightwatching," which is about Rembrandt and the controversy he created with the painting The Night Watch.
